The New Hope Trojans defeated Noxubee for the third time this season on Feb 15th in the Distict 4-4A championship game at West Point Gymnasium by a margin of 30-24. Coach Billups of Noxubee tried the stall ball strategy in an attempt to have a different outcome from the Dec 14 75-49 and the Jan 4 84-78 losses. The first quarter ended with Noxubee leading 2-1. At halftime it was Noxubee 8 New Hope 6. The third quarter opened with an alley oop jam to Harris and a ‘Hit Man’ Hughes 3 pointer and ended with New Hope ahead 19-17. With 1 minute and 45 seconds left in the game New Hope led 23-21. Turnovers at the end resulted in a New Hope layup and foul shots, dooming the slow down strategy, for a final score of 30-24.
Lanier and Coach B. the elder’s stategy for Tuesday’s game at New Hope will certainly be guided by the younger’s three game experience against the Trojans.
